Jwalamukhi Temple and Shrine

Jwalamukhi means ‘a flaming mouth’. The temple of Jawalamukhi is dedicated to Goddess considered to have a flaming mouth. The temple is constructed around natural jets of combustible gas which are deemed to be a manifestation of the Goddess Jwalamukhi or Goddess of Light. The place is located about 35 km northeast from Chintpurni on the Dharamsala-Shimla road. It is just 20 km from the Jwalamukhi Road Railway Station. The place drives in throngs of pilgrims from different places every year. No idol is seated in the temple and the goddess is worshipped in the form of flames coming out from the cracks in the rocks here. A Fair is organized here during March-April and September-October every year.
