Aptly called “Dev Bhoomi” – Abode of the Gods, Himachal Pradesh has a number of pilgrimage centers and Hindu temples, which are well-known for their magnificent work of architecture. Most of the temples have a history of their own, while some of them are associated with ancient legends. Temples are centers of attraction for visitors and tourists.
Mata Chintpurni temple located in Una district of Himachal Pradesh is among the most famous temples in the beautiful land of Himachal Pradesh. The temple is dedicated to Mata Chintpurni and Chhinnamastika Devi. It is one of the most revered shrines of the Hindus.

History Of Chintpurni Temple

It is believed that during the ancient times, Sati’s feet fell at Chintpurni and it is because of this reason that the devotees come to this holy shrine to leave their worries and pray for boons. Legend has it that earlier, the goddess revealed herself to Maya Dass, who was an ardent devotee and it was after this that the temple came into existence.
According to an ancient legend, the goddess cut off her head in order to lessen the blood thirst of her companions and this is the reason that the image of the goddess is depicted without a head. The temple came to be called Chhinnamastika Devi – the goddess without a head following the legend.
The people visiting this famous temple consider Chintpurni Devi as the goddess who takes away all the worries of her devotees. “Chhinnamastika” means the one without the head. The goddess at the temple is depicted without her head in a pindi (phallic) form.

The devotees coming to this renowned temple have eternal faith and pray with utmost reverence for the goddess, as they believe she will bless them and fulfill all their wishes. It is believed that the people coming to the temple never leave empty handed from the shrine of goddess Chintpurni or Chhinnamastika.

‘Navratras’ Are Observed With Great Enthusiasm

The temple has a shrine where the image of Mata Chintpurni is placed in the form of a round stone. Navratras are observed with great enthusiasm and fervor at the temple and there is a lot of crowd at the temple, as people from far off places throng the temple to seek blessings from the goddess. Besides, grand fairs and festivity also takes place during the Navratras, which is another major attraction for the devotees.
