Hi everyone,
I’m planning a trip to Sangla Valley and thinking of visiting Chitkul as well. Is it a good idea to go there during winter?
Are the roads open and what kind of conditions should I expect?
Visiting Chitkul in winter is possible but a bit challenging, especially compared to other places. The road from **Sangla Valley to Chitkul usually remains open, but it can get blocked temporarily due to heavy snowfall, so accessibility is not always guaranteed. You should expect very cold temperatures (often below zero), icy roads, and limited facilities as many hotels and cafés shut down in peak winter. If you’re comfortable with cold weather and flexible plans, it can be a beautiful experience with snow-covered views, otherwise it’s better to plan in early winter or spring for a more comfortable trip.
